Unconfigured DIDs

After purchasing DIDs, they will need to be configured before they are live. In the VI Back Office, there will be an alert for DIDs that are currently unconfigured. This alert appears in the right upper hand corner of the Main Dashboard screen:

The Unconfigured DIDs can be accessed by clicking this alert, or by going to DIDs > Management > Unconfigured DIDs.

While in this section, configure DIDs one by one by clicking "Configure DID". Or select multiple DIDs by placing a check mark in the box next to them, and then clicking Configure Selected DIDs.

Either of these options will bring you to the DID Configuration Wizard:

This wizard will walk you through the configuration of one or more DIDs step by step. The only step that is necessary for a DID to be live is assigning it to an endpoint group. Additional features such as CallerID or E911 can be added later. For this example, we will cover all the steps.

Route To

You have several options for choosing how your DIDs will route. Click the drop-down menu to select an option.

Endpoint Group

Choose an endpoint group to assign the DID(s) to. As previously mentioned, this is the only step that is necessary for the DID to be live.

Failover Number

Our DID Failover option is designed so that IF your server does not respond to an INVITE for an inbound call we will forward that call to a 10-digit number of your choice. There are two situations that would cause the failover to kick in:

  • We get no response from your PBX/switch, resulting in a timeout

  • We get a SIP rejection code from your PBX/switch (such as 503, 603, etc)

If the DID is configured for failover, and we receive no response from your switch, we will forward the call to the designated number configured.

CNAM Lookup and Outbound CNAM

All VoIP Innovations DIDs support Inbound CNAM (aka CNAM Lookup), though not all of them support Outbound CNAM. This depends on the underlying carrier. The wizard will not allow you to do outbound CNAM if it is not supported.

E911

This section is to configure E911 for the selected DID(s). Click "Unregistered", this will direct to a page where E911 can be configured. After filling out the information, click "Provision 911" and then click back to go back to the main page.

Directory Listing

Here you can configure E411 (Directory Listing) for your DID(s). If you want to submit a 411 entry for a DID, click Unregistered. This will bring up a
411configuration page. Fill out the information and click Save 411 Listing then click back to go to the main page.

Email to Fax

Email to Fax is an outbound service that allows usersto send faxes from an email client directly to any 10-digit telephone number. Add one or more e-mail addresses by entering them into the box on this page, then clicking Add Email Address.

DID Notes

This field is used for anything that would be notable about the DID. It could be anything that is useful to know about the DID.

SMS

You have several options to receive inbound text messages to your DIDs. To enable SMS on your DID, click the drop-down menu and choose the option that best fits with your needs. Click here for more information on SMS.

Reporting Group

The final tier in the wizard is the Reporting Group. To choose a reporting group for the DID, click the drop-down menu and choose the best fitting option.

After all the fields that apply to the chosen DID are filled out, click "Save Changes". The DID is now configured and usable. Please keep in mind that any changes made in the back office take about 15 minutes to take effect.
