Digium Switchvox Trunk Configuration

This article was written using Switchvox Version 7.6.2.
For this scenario, we will create two separate VOIP Providers (trunks) in Switchvox. One will be for inbound calls, and the other for outbound calls. Let's get started!

Table of Contents:

1. Creating a VOIP Provider – Inbound Trunk

First, we will need to start creating VOIP Providers. To begin, go to Setup > VOIP Providers.

Select Create SIP Provider.

Enter your settings like the screenshot below, then click Save SIP Provider.

Notice the Hostname/IP Address is set to "64.136.173.31", which is VI's primary inbound SIP server.

The Account ID and Password fields are required, but you can enter anything you want. VoIP Innovations uses IP-based authentication, so these fields can be "dummied".

On the Peer Settings tab, change the Host Type to Peer and Save SIP Provider.

Next, click on the Connection Settings tab.

Under SIP Provider Host List, you can add the rest of our SIP signaling IP addresses. The full list of IPs can be
found here:

https://voipinnovations.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/VIW/pages/563019783

We recommend adding at least the Conversational and Origination rows of IP addresses. To be safe, you may need to add all IP addresses in the list to ensure that you will not miss any inbound calls.

You should now be ready to receive inbound calls.

2. Creating a VOIP Provider – Outbound Trunk

Now we will create another trunk so that we can send outbound calls. Go to Setup > VOIP Providers.

Select Create SIP Provider.

The main distinction for this trunk is that the Hostname/IP Address will be sent to VoIP Innovations' primary outbound IP address for conversational traffic (64.136.174.30). Enter your settings like the screenshot below, then click Save SIP Provider.

The Account ID and Password fields are required, but you can enter anything you want. VoIP Innovations uses IP-based authentication, so these fields can be "dummied".

Just like before, change your Host Type to Peer:

You are now ready to send outbound calls to VoIP Innovations!

3. Outgoing Call Rules

Now let's configure our outgoing call rules. To begin, go to Setup > Outgoing Calls.

Select Create Outgoing Call Rule.

Enter your outgoing call settings as depicted in the screenshot below:

Now you can make outbound calls. Just make sure that your Extension is using the correct Outgoing Call Rule.

Note: If you wish to utilize our redundant SIP IP addresses for outbound calling, you may need to use the Add Failover Call Through Provider option in the screenshot above. In that case, you would need to create multiple VOIP providers and use our backup IP addresses as the main hostname/IP address.

4. Incoming Call Rules

Now let's configure inbound calls. To begin, go to Setup > Incoming Calls.

Select Create Single DID Route.

Simply enter the DID you would like to route, then select your Incoming Provider and Extension.

That's it! You are now ready to make and receive calls using VoIP Innovations and Digium Switchvox.
