Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where do I send my outbound traffic?

A: Please send normal outbound traffic to the “Conversational” row of IP addresses starting with the primary IP address (64.136.174.30). If you are sending short-duration traffic, please send this to the Short Duration row of IP addresses starting with 64.136.174.35.

Note

Please do not send any outbound traffic to the “Origination” row of IP addresses, as these calls will likely fail. That section is only used for inbound calls that VI sends to your network.

Q: What are the “Advanced Server” rows used for?

A: These are only used if your account is actively utilizing our “Advanced Server Configuration” feature. For more information, please see our Wiki article on the subject. If you are not using this feature, you won’t need to worry about these IP addresses.

Q: Do I need to add all these IP addresses to my system?

A: Basically, yes. In order to take full advantage of our redundancy, please ensure that your network can accept inbound calls from all the IP addresses in this document.

If you need help configuring your PBX to utilize these IP addresses, please see our Wiki section: PBX Trunk Configuration

Q: Does VoIP Innovations support SIP over TCP or UDP?

A: VI supports SIP over both TCP and UDP.

Q: Which IP addresses will I receive audio/RTP traffic from?

A: VoIP Innovations does not proxy the audio of your calls. You will exchange audio/RTP directly with our underlying carriers’ media gateways. For incoming audio, we recommend opening UDP ports 10,000 to 20,000. For outbound audio, we recommend making firewall provisions to send audio to UDP ports 6,000 to 65,000.
